I want to share with you today a post about a very close client and Doer of mine…

A high ticket course is one you charge between $500 to $2,000 for…

Packed with life-changing value for your clients, well worth that investment.

You’ve probably realised by now that I went through a lot of trial and error when I tried to get my head around building courses.

So I totally understand what it’s like to be hesitant about diving into the E-Learning industry, no matter how good the numbers look.

It’s usually at this point when I’m working with a female entrepreneur that she starts asking me questions like:

  • Where do I even start when it comes to actually turn this into a course?
  • What kind of tech experience do I need to actually get this thing live?
  • How much is this going to cost me? How much time will this take?
  • Do my industry really need this? Can’t they find this information online for free anyway?
  • And what am I supposed to actually include in this course?
  • How many lessons should it be? How many modules should I have?

And it’s this last question that really takes me to the heart of what I wanted to share today.

This is a common theme that comes up when I’m coaching women through their own online course creation…

How do you divide the course up?

At the start of my own course-creating journey, I struggled with this too.

But the truth is, I think we make it it a lot harder than it needs to be 😉

I knew that E-learning was “it” – that one thing that could save me from the time-for-money vortex trapping me…

So I gave it everything I had – maybe too much, looking back.

When my course wasn’t selling, I went back to the drawing board.

I grabbed out my favourite whiteboard, and decided to make some changes.

First, I scrubbed out one lesson in each module…

Then I made a note to make some of the videos shorter, by splitting them into two.

I put a circle around anything that wasn’t 100% necessary to include…

And put lines under all the bits that I’d rushed over too fast.

Several hours in, I wasn’t nearly done, and my whiteboard looked a little like this:

I couldn’t believe how overwhelmed I was by all the content – I already knew all this, and I was still exhausted after reading it.

And that’s when I realised…

If my course was this overwhelming for me, how must my student have been feeling?

Of course I wasn’t making any sales…

I had about 6 courses crammed into one!

I needed a simple way to structure my content, because this brain-dump of information wasn’t working for my students, and it wasn’t working for me.

When I first met the client and committed Doer I mentioned earlier…

She reminded me a lot of myself at this moment.

She was a female entrepreneur, like yourself, who was ready to harness the power of online courses to reach more people with her teaching.

I sent her away at my recent course creation retreat to get the ball rolling, by mapping out her course outline…

That was everything she wanted to teach her students…

All the thing they’d need-to-know to succeed from her course.

But when she came back the next day, I couldn’t believe what she brought me.

She’d mapped out 487 lessons for her course!

Imagine what her whiteboard would have looked like if she’d done the same process as me 😉

It’s rare that the women I encounter in my business worry they won’t be able to fill their course…

More often than not, they’re in the same position as this Doer.

You have so much to share with your clients…

Because they’re struggling with something, and you know the way out.

When you’re putting together an online course, you just want to give them all the answers…

Not realising that you’re actually overwhelming your students in the process.

Sure those 487 lessons would have been packed with useful, even life-changing teaching…

But it was just too much…

It would have driven clients away, not changed their lives!

From my own example, to this Doer, to countless other female entrepreneurs I’ve worked with…

Without a simple roadmap to follow, it’s all too easy to try and cram 4 courses into one!

I don’t want you to fall into this trap…

Completely dumping your Genius Zone into a set of modules, and expecting your clients to do the work to get anything out of it.

It’s overwhelming and exhausting, for them, and for you.

I’d made the same mistake with my first course…

It was just way too complex and overloaded.

I’d totally turned my audience off wanting to fully consume and use the content.

Don’t get me wrong, my intentions were in the right place…

But in an effort to provide value, I’d actually overwhelmed my clients instead.

So… I erased everything and started fresh.

Literally, I pulled out my whiteboard marker and erased it all.

I mapped out my new high ticket course completely from scratch…

This time though, only giving my students what would be absolutely necessary to get results.

It all came down to this:

Simple = better.

Everything else, I ignored!

In this process, I developed a strategy that has helped me produce every course since.

The same strategy I showed the Doer at the retreat, with the 487 lessons…

And the same one I want to show you as well…

To take the overwhelm out of your course planning, and help you provide true value to your clients.

I call it: The A-Z of Course Creation.

Point A is where your clients are at now, and Point Z is where they’re going to be after they’ve implemented your course.

To get from Point A to Point Z, they’re going to have to hit certain milestones in a certain order…

And those milestones make up the modules of your course.

Each of those modules are unpacked in 5 or 6 different lessons…

And that’s it.

When I implemented this into my first course…

Instead of an overwhelming portal of endless videos and topics…

My students had 6-8 simple milestones they could achieve, that would take them to their Point Z easily.

They’d do the right things in the right order, and get the outcome they wanted when they bought the course.

When I mapped my Genius Zone out into these simple steps, not only did it make sense to my students…

It made sense to me too! I could confidently sell this, because I knew my clients were getting serious value from it.

Plus, there was heaps of content left over that I knew I could turn into other courses in the future too.

Total game changer!
